I bought this bromeliad about 3 years ago while it was in bloom. During the first year I had it, it was hard to tell if it was alive as it always was the same size. Last year, it had two blooms. this year, only the one bloom shown above but it has doubled in size with signs of 2 new plantlets. I hang it up on the fence where it does not get much light. It was missing for about a month this spring. I assumed it was taken as nesting material by a bird but I found it a few feet away buried in myrtle. There are bromeliads that need soil such as pineapple and a pretty red ornamental one I've had for 4 years and then there are those that derive all that they need from the air such as Spanish moss and this plant.
Paris: My sister-in-law and her husband are on their way there. Also Alli of http://alli-lifeintransition.blogspot.com is getting married there either today or tomorrow. She has been through so much, stage 3 breast cancer and now uterine cancer probably from the treatment of the breast cancer. Although Tamoxifen blocks estrogen in the breast tissue, it causes an increase in uterine tissue encouraging overgrowth that sometimes leads to cancer. At anyrate, she deserves this happiness of a new start.
I love Paris. I have been there 3 times, first with the Moms over 10 years ago, then with Steve and then again with friends. When will I go there next?
