Passing through Passau

Well we were in Passau almost a year ago when it was warm, clear and we were healthy. Now it was cold, damp, foggy and we were sick. I am now thinking we had Covid as we were more miserable than having a cold and our symptoms were different. One thing we missed was an organ recital with the world’s largest organ. Too busy last time but now we found out no recitals after Oct 31.

Three rivers come together and the place is surrounded by steep hills. Last year we climbed to a 800 year old fort that had great views.  This time we planned to cross the River Ill and go to an abbey there   The weather forecast said the fog should dissipate by then but it lied. We went up anyway

As it was our last day in Germany, we had German night at dinner

Pretty alley way
German night tables.  We were given pear schnapps. German pretzels are a disappointment; too hard.  I prefer the ones in bakeries here
The colored bricks indicate that this is their art walk but all the galleries were closed in the morning
Strange statue

A store where you mix your own muesli. There was always muesli at breakfast
In the modern part of town
Inside their Dom St Stephens

Most of the outdoor bars had furs to keep the patrons warm

The Danube is very prone to flooding although this year was just the opposite
The Dom

Us at German night.  The waiters wore lederhosen. Dinner was buffet style so I could get all the cheese spaetzle and red sauerkraut I wanted
More modest church on the other side of the river
Bavarians love their dachshunds or dackels  a museum for them

Peering through a window on the art walk

Foggy morning
That huge organ
Rathaus door
Inside the plain church
The drunk
Square in the modern section
Lots of different tortes for German night. If it were earlier in the trip I would have eaten them all. But I limited myself to the esterhazy torte 2nd from left lots of almonds layers
We made it way uphill to the abbey but too foggy
Worlds biggest teeter totter
They take recycling seriously here
Inside the drug store.  almost everything is behind the counter such as ibuprofen. We could grab lots of different flavors of cough drops but Steve insisted on cherry

Inside the abbey church

Fog

On the abbey grounds.  Man doesn’t look happy
